The Municipality of Køge
Køge is an integrated part of the Greater Copenhagen Area
business community. At the same time, the town is far enough away
from the Danish capital to have its own identity, which is backed
by an active cultural and leisure life. In addition, the town is an
important traffic junction. Motorways provide connections to the
north, west and south and there is a well-developed railway network
of regional and commuter trains. Moreover, Køge Havn is a large and
active harbour under constant development.
According to Statistics Denmark, the population of the
Municipality of Køge as of 1 January 2009 was 56,848.
The overriding vision of the Municipality of Køge
The Municipality of Køge is to maintain and develop its position
as a powerhouse and development centre for the whole of Zealand and
the Øresund Region.
This is to be achieved through the following milestones, for
example:
The town of Køge is the dynamic centre for trade and service in
the municipality and region, and the town is also a cultural
meeting place. There must be good traffic connections to the town
for all the residents of the municipality.
The urban areas of the municipality are to be developed with a
view to maintaining "the town as a whole", with a good balance
between residences and workplaces.
Existing and future commercial areas alongside the motorway
system, the Scandinavian Transport Centre and Køge Harbour are the
hubs for the development of workplaces and businesses.
