Area
Cultural activities and initiatives to be the driving force behind the urban development
The areas included in the development are:
- Søndre Havn
- The Station Area
- The Collstrop Site
An area covering a total of almost 24 hectares. This is equivalent
to an area the size of half of the mediaeval town in Køge.
Extent of the basic area (hectares)
Søndre Havn: 15.2 hectares
The Station Area: 5.6 hectares
The Collstrop Site:3.1 hectares
Total: 23.9
It is expected that over the coming 20 years, more than 300,000 m2
of floor space will be established, comprising residences,
commercial facilities, retail outlets and cultural venues. The
residential share alone is expected to comprise more than 150,000
m2 of floor space - i.e. approx. 1,500 residences.
Since the mid-1990s, the Municipality of Køge has followed a
conscious strategy to develop an active commercial harbour. The
most visible result is the filling of the harbour pool in the
northern part of the town, via Køge
Jorddepot (Soil Depot - in Danish). The establishment of the
new commercial harbour is backed by a long-term plan for moving
companies from areas including Søndre Havn.
Over the next 20 years, the former industrial area of Søndre Havn
can thus be converted into an urban area comprising residences,
cultural attractions, green areas, etc.
