Sustainability
Sustainability in the broadest sense of the word to constitute an overriding principle for urban development and renewal
Sustainability covers both environmental and energy-related
factors, for example in the form of high-density residential
construction, which provides a range of environmental benefits.
Moreover, the urban development project will be carried out on a
sustainable basis from the perspectives of health and social
welfare.
The location close to the station - and thus the opportunity to
allow public transport to play a key role - is to be utilised as an
asset in a cohesive development plan. The same applies to the
proximity to the water, which should be considered a significant
factor in relation to initiatives in the fields of health, energy
and the environment.
Considerations of health and social welfare sustainability can, for
example, be accommodated by developing the area to include
residences of different types and sizes, and in the new part of the
town it can be made attractive for residents and visitors to walk
or cycle. Both organised and more spontaneous sports in the form of
water sports clubs, running and roller-skating routes, etc. are
also options that may be included in the urban development.
Sustainability is to be included in the planning phase and also
applied to the actual implementation of the final solutions.
